Poor players
SIR – How I agree with Christopher Booker (Review, March 19) about modern Shakespeare productions.
I remember seeing some great plays at London’s Aldwych Theatre (pre-Barbican days) by Royal Shakespeare Company directors such as Peter Hall, Trevor Nunn and Terry Hands. I can now look back on those days as a golden age of Shakespeare.
I don’t know what today’s young generation are getting from Shakespeare, but the current vogue for gimmicky productions certainly won’t help. It’s such a shame. Peter Purslow Ludlow, Shropshire
