An American in Paris
The muchloved 1951 MGM musical – which starred Gene Kelly as a struggling American artist in post-war Paris, falling for Leslie Caron’s parfumier assistant – is now a multiple Tony Awardwinning stage show. What the evening lacks in narrative complexity and detailed characterisation, it makes up for with brilliant projected backdrops, sensuous dance and fine show tunes, as well as the 1928 title number from the Gershwin backcatalogue.
