MPs call for fast-track stem cell therapies

Ministers should work with the NHS to boost research into new stem cell therapies and introduce a fast-track system for bringing them to patients, MPs have said.

Regenerative treatments which involve replacing lost or diseased tissue have “enormous potential” for improving the quality of lives, a report from the science and technology select committee found. MPs want stem cell therapy to be a key part of the NHS’s strategy. Stephen Metcalfe, the committee chairman, calls for a “receptive environment” for advances.
