Charities shut out
SIR – For the past 40 years I have done door-to-door collections for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. In that time only one person has refused to make a donation.
This year we have been told that door-to-door collecting is now banned because a tiny minority have objected to it, and we are left having to stand in the street to make our collections.
I have been told that this is going to leave the RNLI with a shortfall, and I cannot understand how our country has allowed a small, vociferous group to have such an impact on this and other worthy charities. Mike Thomas Lymington, Hampshire
