Australian outback town votes for nuclear dump
A tiny town in Australia’s outback has voted to house a nuclear waste dump after a fierce battle that has divided the tight-knit farming community.
Residents of the wheat-farming town of Kimba in the state of South Australia voted 396 to 294 to potentially develop a radioactive storage facility for 100 years.
Drought, a lack of jobs and large agricultural operations taking over small farms have hit the town badly.
Supporters of the dump say it will inject £70million worth of construction of roads and facilities.
