Cooler … so one shirt should last you all day
AFTER a week of contrasts – three-shirts-a-day weather in the hot, humid, sweaty South East, where daytime temperatures have been up at 90F (32C), but rain-mac and Thermos conditions in northern Scotland as the mercury struggled to manage 61F (16C) – the week ahead continues to look extremely changeable.
In the South East it will be warm today at 75F (24C), but nothing compared to recent days. With more cloud and even the occasional thunderstorm along the English Channel coast, at least you may be able to make one shirt last all day. At night, temperatures should also drop, so no more sticking to the pillow.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the country, yet another low pressure system will blow into north west Scotland from the Atlantic, meaning little change from the end of last week. Hardly what you’re hoping for in July.
As the day progresses, the clouds will thicken and the low pressure will drift southwards to cover more of England and Wales, only finally heading off out into the North Sea on Monday. It will leave behind an east coast cooler than of late, but elsewhere in the South as Monday moves into Tuesday high pressure could make its presence felt once more, bringing hotter weather. And that may well set a pattern for much of the rest of the week: cooler the further north you go but pleasantly warm in the South.
That’s only one possibility, however; in another the whole country in could experience cool, windy conditions.
At least we are not getting the thunderstorms experienced in Fukuoka Province in Japan this past week – 19 inches of rain, according to one unconfirmed report, in 24 hours.
