Hail to the chief
The Prince of Wales was made an honorary chief in a colourful ceremony on the South Pacific island of Tanna in Vanuatu yesterday, where his father the Duke of Edinburgh is viewed as a divine being by some tribesmen. A grass skirt and white garland were tied around him for the festivities, left. In the tradition of the Malvatumauri Council of Chiefs, the Prince took part in a series of rituals as he was given the high chief name of Mal Menaringmanu. He also took a sip from a cup of kava, which was last consumed when the Duke visited the island in 1974, as seen in the photo
