SIR – Why do food presenters use their fingers to put food on plates?

I do not fancy anything they produce in this manner. During my only hygiene lesson, in the Fifties, we were told: “Do not touch food or the inside of drinking vessels with your fingers. No one wants a dilute solution of your thumb juice.” Dr John Lloyd
