Male camaraderie shades into edgy combat in this brilliant read on frontier conflicts from German writer-director Valeska Grisebach. A group of German builders cross into Bulgaria for a job, but their encroachment on a village spreads brewing antipathy every which way, while grizzled loner Meinhard tries to stick a foot in both camps. American Grammy-winner Porter blends jazz with blues and soul, while his stage presence is warmly charismatic. Exhibitions Beatriz Milhazes: Rio Azul
Classic modernism meets tropical symbolism and riotous pattern in these exuberant geometric paintings, sculptures, installations and even a tapestry from the noted Brazilian artist, influenced by Bridget Riley and Georgia O’Keefe.
