Boy, three, drowns at fitness club pool

Police are investigating the death of a three-year-old boy who drowned in a swimming pool at a fitness club.

The child was found unconscious at the David Lloyd sports club in Leeds at 9.30am yesterday. He was pronounced dead at Leeds General Infirmary.

In a statement, David Lloyd said it was “deeply saddened” by the death of the boy, who was swimming with his family in the club’s indoor pool.

It added: “Our teams are fully trained to deal with incidents of this nature. They administered CPR and the emergency services were called.”

West Yorkshire Police are treating the incident as an accidental death, but are appealing for witnesses.
