Dragon boat accident kills 11

Eleven people have been killed after two dragon boats capsized in China.

Rowers onboard the kayak-like boats were practising for a race in the Guilin when the accident occurred yesterday, tipping 57 people into the water.

Some 40 people were pulled out of the water alive while six are still missing news agency Xinhua said.

Authoritie­s said villagers had organised a practice session without notifying police, and that two organisers were detained.

Races are held every year to mark the Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on the summer solstice.
