Rohingya refugees at sea for nine days

-

A group of Rohingya refugees picked up in Indonesian waters spent nine days at sea on a wooden boat, sailing for Malaysia.

Eight children, 25 women and 43 men were taken ashore on Friday on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. It is the third known attempt by members of the ethnic minority to escape Burma by sea this month.

One refugee, Fariq Muhammad, said he paid about £110 for a place on the boat, which left Rakhine state, where a military crackdown on the ethic minority has sparked an exodus of 700,000 refugees since August.
