Royal flush
Yesterday, the Queen turned 92 – and we wish her a very happy birthday. It is a remarkable time for the monarchy, marked by change and continuity. The Prince of Wales has been confirmed as the next head of the Commonwealth, a job that he will perform brilliantly. There is probably no one in the world, except Her Majesty, who is better qualified: over 70 years, he has visited 44 out of 53 members of the organisation.
Meanwhile, the country also awaits news of the Duchess of Cambridge’s baby, which is due any day soon, and there is the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to look forward to in May. The Royal family expands and grows, but the institution itself remains unchanged in its themes of duty and service to the nation. The country is blessed by its living constitution.
