Walking out of useless meetings is a risky move in the real world

If you’re Elon Musk, possessor of $20.8 billion (£14.8 billion), convinced you’re the one to get humans living on Mars and the inventor not only of a spacecraft for doing so, but of the world’s most successful electric car, then I can see why the idea of sitting in unproducti­ve meetings doesn’t fly.

A leaked email last week revealed Musk telling staff working on the Tesla 3 to boost productivi­ty by walking out of such summits and, if it helps them to use their time better, to ignore line managers and break company rules.

It’s great that Musk, empowered by money, fame and genius, can be so dismissive of the time-wasting elements of office life. And from the point of view of an arrogant, hugely
