Time to build

SIR – Liam Halligan (Business, May 20) discusses the current housing crisis.

Why doesn’t the Government just build the 300,000-350,000 houses needed over the next 15 years? It would be a brave opposition that blocked such proposals.

Of course there are objections to be made against such a dramatic project, but it has to be done. The benefit to Britain’s economy would be a huge boost and just what is needed now. H N Moulton-Thomas

SIR – I agree that commercial property builders should be encouraged to install solar panels (Letters, May 20).

Supermarket car parks should also have “carports”, which would generate power while also providing shelter for customers crossing acres of car park. Alyson Persson
