Many Leftists are conflicted when it comes to nationalism. In general, they despise it as irrational, backward and racist. Yet they make exceptions. When the nationalism in question is Palestinian or Venezuelan or Zimbabwean, it suddenly becomes acceptable – indeed, laudable. A British patriot is a bigot; an antiBritish patriot is a freedom-fighter.
