Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) BBC TWO, 6.05PM; NOT SCOTLAND/WALES

The fourth – and most lucrative – film in the franchise came 27 years after the first, but, then aged 64, Harrison Ford still had enough energy to preserve the core credentials. It’s the height of the Cold War and young Mutt (Shia LaBeouf) calls on Jones (Ford) to help him trail a skull that must be returned to a lost Amazonian city. Cate Blanchett co-stars.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) CHANNEL 4, 10.00PM ★★★★

When we last left ape-world, relationships between humans and our simian cousins were in tatters, and they’ve only got worse since. With most of humankind wiped out by a virulent plague, the last survivors take up arms and the two species are brought to the brink of war. However often it risks silliness, this is anything but, with splendid special effects and a great lead in Andy Serkis.

The Devil’s Double (2011) BBC ONE, 11.30PM; SCOTLAND, 12.30AM/NOT WALES ★★★

The story of “Black Prince” Uday Hussein and his bodyguard, Latif Yahia, could have been fascinating in the hands of a Michael Mann. Unfortunately, this is ill-considered: Lee Tamahori turns it into a dramatically mangled Scarface homage. Opposite Ludivine Sagnier, Dominic Cooper (best known for Mamma Mia!) is fairly amusing in one part but merely wooden in the other.
