WHAT TO SEE THIS WEEK
Film
Johnny English Strikes Again
The third outing in 15 years for Rowan Atkinson’s blundering Bond pastiche is the latest in a long line of missed opportunities to bring its leading man’s rare genius for physical comedy to the big screen, though a couple of good skits hint at what might have been. Olga Kurylenko co-stars as a friendly Russian spy who helps Johnny (Atkinson, pictured) defend Britain from a malicious hacker.

Caro Emerald
The Dutch jazz singer (pictured) – who has broken chart records in her home country – is a class act, bringing soul and flow to her charming adaptations of retro sounds and styles. Her songs offer fresh perspectives on old musical tropes, while her voice floats in and out of the mix with a sublime backing band.

Royal Ballet: Mayerling
This Mayerling, Kenneth MacMillan’s 1978 dramatisation of the double suicide of Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria-Hungary, played by Steven McRae (pictured), and his young mistress in 1889, is the darkest and (for its cast) most demanding of all his full-evening works. Koen Kessels shares the conducting duties with Paul Murphy.

Antony and Cleopatra
Simon Godwin affirms his credentials as one of our finest directors of Shakespeare with this lucid reading of theatre’s greatest mid-life love story, starring Ralph Fiennes as the fading yet still formidable Roman, and Sophie Okonedo (both pictured) as the Egyptian queen who tempts him to her lair, bringing about their tragic downfall.
