MPs may block gender changes if no GP check

The Sunday Telegraph - - News -

Moves to make it possible to change gender without seeing a GP face being voted down by MPs, polls suggest.

Penny Mordaunt, the Equalities minister, will receive preliminary results of a public consultation that will be the basis for reforming the Gender Recognition Act. But last night a poll by ComRes for The Times of Tory MPs suggested a backbench rebellion will make it tough to implement such a law.

Just 9 per cent of those asked would support a change to allow transgender people to no longer need a GP’s support to self-declare as a different gender.
