Nigella reveals she has to work after divorce

The Sunday Telegraph - - News -

NIGELLA LAWSON has talked about having to start her life again in her 50s following the collapse of her marriage to Charles Saatchi.

The 58-year-old food writer and television star revealed she has to work to pay the bills at a time when “you’re meant to be paying it all off ”.

She also talked frankly about her despair at the death of fellow television chef Anthony Bourdain, her habit of spending entire weekends without getting dressed and how Nancy Dell’Olio calling her “fat” had “thrilled” her.

Lawson made the revealing comments in a lengthy interview with food critic Marina O’Loughlin in the latest edition of food and wine magazine Noble Rot.

Asked about the effects of fame and whether she would prefer to step out of the public eye, she said she did think about it but had financial issues to consider.

“I had to start my life again at 53, get a mortgage at an age when you’re meant to be paying it all off,” she said “I do have to work. But I only do a TV programme every other year. It’s not like I’m there all the time.”

Her 10-year marriage to the renowned advertising guru and art collector collapsed in 2013 after he was pictured grabbing her round the throat outside London restaurant Scott’s.

At a court case later that year involving the couple’s two former assistants, the mother of two admitted taking cannabis and cocaine, but denied being addicted to drugs.

In the interview she said she had a negative side, was naturally lazy, but her public side is more upbeat.
