Shoplifters
Film
The latest helping of cinematic soul food from Japanese writer-director Hirokazu Kore-eda has been worth the wait since its Palme d’Or win at the Cannes Film Festival in May. A sensual, hopeful portrait of an unconventional “shoplifting family” and their life on Tokyo’s hardscrabble fringes, it’s an unassuming treasure, and one of the very best films of the year.
