Park run called off after man seen dead in lake

A man’s body has been found in an ornamental lake. Police said the body was discovered in the lake on Southampton Common by a member of the public early yesterday.

A running event due to take place yesterday in the Hampshire park was cancelled and hundreds of runners asked to leave the park. Tamsyn Smith, the park run’s director said: “The run was called off five minutes before the start – there were hundreds of people lined up and ready to go.”

The death comes less than a month after a murder inquiry was launched after a 66-year-old man’s body was found in woodland near the lake.
