Future of cash
SIR – ATMs (Letters, December 9) are useful cash dispensers, but they are becoming unnecessary.
I rarely use them now because, like most people, I prefer contactless card or phone payments; and what cash I do carry I obtain through cashback or at the post office. At many places (like the Dartford Crossing, Twickenham and the Oval) cash is not accepted. This trend will continue, and cash will become redundant. Peter Froggatt

SIR – The picture you printed of the mobile banking facility in Broadway reminded me of my visit to the Isle of Mull about 25 years ago.
A mobile bank operated there. It consisted of a cash box on the rear seat of a car, which visited customers.
A village post office could also be found. This was a garden shed. Richard Tyler
