Rudd set to delay vote on Universal Credit roll-out

-

The roll-out of the Government’s flagship Universal Credit programme is set to be delayed, it was reported last night.

Amber Rudd, Work and Pensions Secretary, is reportedly set to scrap plans for a vote in parliament to allow three million welfare claimants to be transferred to the controversial new system, amid warnings about its impact on the vulnerable.

The overhaul is expected to be part of a major rethink of the system, The Observer reported.

Rudd will now reportedly seek approval for a smaller pilot scheme to transfer 10,000 people to the new system, a Whitehall source said.
