Thousands protest over Hungarian ‘slave law’

-

Thousands marched through Budapest yesterday to protest against a new law that allows employers to ask staff to work up to 400 hours per year of overtime. Opposition groups have staged rallies in the Hungarian capital and other cities against Viktor Orbán, the prime minister.

The latest, organised by opposition parties, trade unions and civic groups, targeted the “slave law”, passed by parliament last month, which could add two hours to an average work day.
