‘Safe’ screens

-

SIR – A different lot of experts have now decided that “screen time” on phones and tablets is not, after all, harmful to the development of children and young adults (report, December 4).

Whether it is or not, it certainly seems to be harmful to social grace. Felicity Foulis

SIR – It is suggested that screen time does not cause physical harm. But what about mental harm?

Screen time can curtail learning time and exercise time, very possibly replacing these things with something trivial.

As a parent I would advise that reading time should exceed exercise time by three to one; and together these activities should exceed screen time by two to one. R M Flaherty
