Car-free countryside
SIR – The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence is encouraging councils to price motorists off the road (report, January 4).
This is another example of how little understanding metropolitan airheads have of rural life. I can see it now: country roads packed with elderly people and buggy-pushing mothers, enjoying a bracing walk to the nearest shop, doctor’s surgery – or bus stop. What’s a few miles in foul weather?
