Woman killed in south London hit-and-run

A woman in her early 20s was mowed down by a suspected hit-and-run driver in south London just after midnight yesterday.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene on Brixton Hill.

She has currently not been formally identified although her immediate family has been informed.

The Metropolitan Police said: “The driver of the vehicle, which was travelling at speed, did not stop at the scene and inquiries are under way to trace it.

“The vehicle is believed to be a dark-coloured VW, possibly a Golf, which may have sustained damage to the bonnet.”
