An honest tax tally

SIR – Having just returned from a holiday in Canada, I agree with Tom Welsh (Comment, August 11) that the state needs to be more transparent about how much tax it takes from us.

Over there, prices are usually displayed as net “plus taxes”, which are then shown separately on the bill, reminding the citizen how much the Government is trousering. Wesley Lees
