The Reunion RADIO 4, 11.15AM

As Desert Island Discs takes its summer break, Sue McGregor returns with a new series of The Reunion, which comes from York Minster and brings together those involved in the devastating 1984 fire there which caused extensive damage to the Minster, especially its unique Rose Window and destroying the roof of the South Transept. Guests include former Canon Chancellor John Toy, Alan Stow, retired divisional fire commander, Bishop David Wilbourne, a chaplain in York at the time, master mason John David and lead joiner Geoff Brayshaw.

Matt Lucas RADIO 2, 5.00PM

Paul O’Grady is on holiday too, so comedian Matt Lucas is admirably filling his seat for the summer. Lucas, currently in London to appear in a staged concert of Les Misérables in the West End, has also deputised for Zoe

Ball on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, and he’s a radio natural and a cut above the usual celebrity locums. The music he plays is like the best quirky Eighties disco, and interviews and segments where he apologises on behalf of listeners makes the show a very cuddly experience.
