Online ‘miracle cures’ pose risk to health, says regulator
FAKE coronavirus tests and “miracle cures” pose a risk to health, the medicines regulator has warned after a rise in their sale online.
Issuing a safety warning, the Medical and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency said it was investigating an increasing number of bogus medicines – including those labelled antiviral misting sprays and miracle cures. Action on rogue traders has already seen nine website domain names and social media accounts shut down.
Lynda Scammell, an agency enforcement official, said: “There is no medicine licensed specifically to treat or prevent Covid-19, therefore any claiming to do so are not authorised.”
