Man killed after hammock breaks

A stonemason was killed when his garden hammock collapsed, bringing a metal post down on his head, an inquest was told.

Richard Grassby suffered brain injuries and internal bleeding, a coroner heard.

The 58-year-old father of two died in hospital after the incident on Aug 26 last year, leaving his grieving relatives, who could not attend his inquest due to Covid-19 rules, to manage his gravestone company, Dorset Stone Memorials.

Brendan Allen, the Dorset Coroner sitting in Bournemout­h, recorded a verdict of accidental death.
