Migrants rescued off Dover coast

More than 50 migrants have been rescued trying to cross the English Channel.

The 49 men and four women travelled on four boats, which were intercepte­d by Border Force officials near Dover between 2.20am and 6am yesterday.

The 53 people identified themselves as Iranian, Iraqi, Kuwaiti, Syrian and Yemeni nationals. On Thursday, 52 migrants, including five children, were intercepte­d in the same area.

They were all brought ashore and assessed and will be spoken to by immigratio­n officials, the Home Office has confirmed.
