AN 11-year-old boy who was shot in a London house is feared to have suffered “life-changing injuries”.

Police were called to an address in Kerry Drive, Upminster, east London, on Friday night, where they found the child and his father both wounded.

A number of suspects fled the scene before officers arrived, and no arrests have been made so far.

The father suffered cuts to his head, while his son’s injuries were described as potentially life-changing but not life-threatening. Both were both taken to hospital.

The Met Police said in a statement: “Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service and found two people at the address suffering injuries.

“A man, believed to be aged his 40s, had sustained his head.

“It is unknown whether his injuries were caused by the firearm discharge.

“Enquiries are under way to establish the full circumstances.”

Residents said that they were shaken by the violent incident, which happened at around 9.30pm, with one neighbour saying that she heard banging.

Kenny Lau, 30, a bank worker, said: “There were supposedly some loud bangs last night. I personally didn’t hear it, but my mum did. If I did, I

didn’t think anything of it. There were some helicopters circling around all night.”

Peter Frost, 71, said: “This is a quiet road, lots of retirees around here.

“It’s a nightmare for that poor boy to be left with injuries like that. You just hope he’ll be able to live as best a life as he can, get by, and hopefully he’ll recover.”

Marilyn O’Connor, 70, said: “It’s just so unnerving.

“This is a quiet place, it’s a leafy suburb. You wouldn’t expect something like that to happen in a place like this,” she added.

A 53-year-old dog walker added: “People come here for a quiet life.”

Police cordoned off the road on Saturday morning, and forensic officers arrived to examine the scene for evidence.
