Ruthless hands

SIR – I take great comfort in the late Stuart Wheeler’s belief, reported by Daniel Hannan (Comment, July 26), that women have a natural advantage in the game of Racing Demon.

Over the years I have happily lost many games of Racing Demon to my mother, my sister, my wife, my two daughters, many female friends, and the late Queen Mother – though that game was played at a pace and with decorum that is not normal in family contests. But I think they would all dismiss any claim of natural advantage and attribute their victories to skill, speed and ruthlessness.
