Surfer punches shark to save wife

An Australian surfer jumped on to a great white shark and punched it as it attacked his wife yesterday.

Chantelle Doyle, 35, suffered gashes to her leg before being rescued from the shark, measuring up to 10ft long, at Port Macquarie, New South Wales.

She was stable in hospital last night while a rescue official called her unnamed husband’s actions: “Pretty full on, really heroic.”
