I’ll be there for the Friends reunion

-

Together again: the original cast have filmed a one-off special

At the time, I thought the 90s were rubbish – but perhaps that was natural, given that I was, for part of them anyway, a moody teenager. I’d never have believed that, 20-odd years later, 90s nostalgia would be a thing and that I’d be indulging in it.

But when it comes to TV, the 90s was simply the best – iconic programmes rained down on us, from 90210 to Saved by the Bell, Sex and the City and the allimportant Friends. Watching them now is like taking a cool and refreshing shower – they are so free of the constraints of PC culture.

And so it is with pleasure that I learned of a Friends reunion. The show, of course, has come under the scrutiny of the woke police in recent years for allegedly offcolour jokes about sexuality, but most of us still love it anyway.

The reunion, to be broadcast later this month on HBO Max, isn’t quite like the original: the cast will be in their own characters, unscripted and, in addition to the original six, there will be a range of star guests, from Lady Gaga to David Beckham.

But as Courteney Cox put it: “This kind of thing doesn’t happen every year. I feel blessed to have had a chance to reunite with my friends, and it was better than ever.”
