‘Earmark repairs fund for cycle lane potholes’

-

A dedicated pothole fund is needed for cycle lanes and pathways to prevent accidents, ministers are warned amid a cycling “explosion” in the pandemic.

The local government insurer Zurich said cyclists and e-scooter riders were at the greatest risk of injury from potholes but that their dedicated lanes had no earmarked repairs funding.

The call has been backed by cycling groups such as Cycling UK, who said funding needed to be targeted at standalone cycle paths as well as those that are part of the roads network.

The calls come as the Government has boosted highways repairs funding earlier this year.
