MPs criticise taxpayer funds for ‘woke’ agenda

- By Ewan Somerville

CHARITIES should not use taxpayers’ money to pursue “contentious doctrinal ends” through their diversity training, MPs have said.

Tory MPs from the Common Sense Group have urged ministers to “ensure public funds are not being used to further militant ends”.

It comes after The Sunday Telegraph unearthed mandatory equality and diversity training for Citizens Advice staff that included an optional self-help glossary of 26 concepts on topics such as gender identity and race. Staff were also urged to wear pronoun badges.

Sir John Hayes, chairman of the Common Sense Group, called the guidance “blatantly ideological”. In a letter to Paul Scully, the business minister, this week he noted the charity recently received a funding boost of up to £15 million.

Dame Clare Moriarty, Citizens Advice chief executive, said: “We keep all of these materials under review.”
