Picasso’s Christmas card sells for more than £18k

-

A sketch of a Christmas turkey dinner, made on the back of a postcard by Pablo Picasso, has sold for £18,800.

He sent it to a musician’s family in London in 1919, writing: “Dear friends, here you have, with this well-served table, our best wishes.”

The black ink drawing includes plates, turkey, bottles of wine, four glasses and fruit. He adds the address of his home in Paris and his studio, as well as his signature.

The card has a printed winter scene on the front and went to Henri Defosse, a composer and conductor.

It fetched the top price on the first day of an internet sale by International Autograph Auctions Europe.
