Ordeal ‘He said nobody would support me’
Woman B, Cambridgeshire
The victim, who is in her 40s, had two children with her now ex-partner, who was a serving officer. When five months’ pregnant with their first child, her partner told her that she would lose her baby if she left him “because he was a police officer and nobody would support me”.
“That’s when the manipulation started,” she said. Her partner was physically abusive to her and her children, she said.
In 2017, she asked for a divorce after he threatened to slit her throat.
She reported him to a neighbouring force out of fear Cambridgeshire Police would not act. “He has access to everything. He could find us in a couple of strokes of the keyboard. The anxiety was severe,” she said.
But she was redirected to Cambridgeshire because the alleged crimes were committed in their area. After a threehour interview, the case was not progressed to prosecution. “I sent them photos. They were not interested,” Woman B said.
The force said: “We take all reports of abuse extremely seriously and no exception should be made when it is alleged to involve a police officer.”
