‘We cannot in good faith welcome the president to our hallowed grounds’

VICTIMS of the September 11 terrorist attacks have called on Joe Biden to stay away from memorial events unless he releases files that they believe implicate Saudi officials in the plot.

A letter signed by nearly 1,800 people, including bereaved family members, first responders and survivors of the 2001 terror attacks, urges the US president to honour his pledge to declassify the files.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed in attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon and when an aircraft crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania after four planes were hijacked.

Voicing their frustration, they wrote: “We cannot in good faith, and with veneration to those lost, sick, and injured, welcome the president to our hallowed grounds until he fulfils his commitment. Since the conclusion of the 9/11 Commission in 2004 much investigative evidence has been uncovered implicating Saudi government officials in supporting the attacks.

“Through multiple administrations, the department of ustice and the FBI have actively sought to keep this information secret and prevent the American people from learning the full truth about the 9/11 attacks.”

Tens of thousands of other people have contracted serious diseases, including cancer, from the toxic fall-out at the terror sites.

Fifteen of the 19 hijackers were Saudi nationals and the families believe that the country’s officials had advance knowledge of the plot but failed to act.

The Saudi government has denied the allegations.
