Memorial for police officer shot in Croydon

-

A memorial service for Matiu “Matt” Ratana, the Met police sergeant shot and killed on duty last year, will be held so officers get the chance to say a final farewell.

The event will be held on Nov 29, more than a year after Sgt Ratana was shot at Croydon police station, in place of a usual full force funeral, which could not be held because of Covid restrictions.

The 54-year-old was shot in the chest as he prepared to search a handcuffed suspect on Sept 25 last year. Louis De Zoysa, 24, charged with murder, appeared at the Old Bailey this month. He is accused of discharging four bullets in a holding cell.
