Teesside Airport closed after light aircraft crash

-

Teesside Airport’s runway was forced to close yesterday after a light aircraft crashed, leaving three people needing hospital treatment.

The pilot and two passengers on board the craft needed emergency care following the 9.39am incident. North Eastern Ambulance Service said one of the three had suffered serious injuries.

The airport said its runway would remain closed “until further notice” while an investigation is carried out.

Rob Cherrie, general manager at County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, said the aircraft “had taken off then come back down again very quickly” and fire crews had cut the three people out of the plane.
