Name that antique

SIR – Did anyone else notice that the “pill maker”, as Marc Allum described it on last Sunday’s Antiques Roadshow, was in fact a barley cutter, used to determine the malting quality of barley (by slicing 100 grains in half to compare their colour)?

I used one of these for most of my working life.
