Fit for operation Pre-surgery help for patients

Patients will be offered help to get “fighting fit” ahead of surgery to reduce costly cancellations and boost recovery.

A third of operations missed at the last minute happen because of poor health, with conditions such as diabetes or high-blood pressure. Under the NHS Elective Care Recovery Plan, medics will identify those who need to lose weight, quit smoking, or get fitter, with patients given personalised plans in the run-up.
