Anti-Semite shouted ‘Heil Hitler’ at a Jewish mother
A MOTHER and her two small children suffered anti-Semitic abuse from a man who subsequently raised his arm in a “Nazi salute”, causing police to launch an investigation.
Monday’s incident in Stamford Hill, which has the largest concentration of Hasidic Jews in Europe, is the latest in a string of such incidents in and around the north London neighbourhood.
CCTV footage published online captured the woman, who was pushing a pram with one child in it and another standing at the rear, swerving out of the way of three men who were walking towards her.
As the trio passes, the lead male allegedly shouted at her: “We don’t want Jews here, heil Hitler,” and raised his right arm in what appeared to be a Nazi salute. The perpetrator, who was wearing camouflage combat trousers, beige boots and a dark cap, and appeared to be smoking, is yet to be identified.
The incident follows an assault last month on two Jewish men in the neighbouring borough of Haringey, on Holocaust Memorial Day, over which a teenager has been charged.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Police received a report of an antiSemitic hate crime that took place in Stamford Hill, at approximately 16:45hrs on Monday 7 Feb.
“Enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible. There have been no arrests.”
Last year, 2,255 anti-Semitic incidents were recorded in the UK, an increase of 34 per cent on 2020’s total.
