Freezing migrants held after Channel crossing

-

Dozens of migrants have been detained by Border Force officials as they took advantage of a narrow break in the weather to cross the English Channel in inflatable boats.

Around 90 migrants in three boats were picked up in freezing conditions in the Channel yesterday morning.

They are thought to have set off in calm conditions on Friday night but as they reached the Kent coast, the winds made the sea much choppier.

One group, mainly men, were brought in on the Border Force cutter Seeker, while a second group were picked up by the Border Force vessel Hurricane.
