Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel – of the Tiger King series – receives what seems to be the coup de grâce to his reputation before his consignment into popculture obscurity. This drama comes from Etan Frankel and Saturday Night Live alumna Kate McKinnon, who also takes on the role of Exotic’s bête noire, Carole Baskin, opposite John Cameron Mitchell’s Exotic. Like many dramas, this is also based on a podcast, exhaustively documenting the dispute between Baskin and Exotic that began over allegations of animal mistreatment and deteriorated into attempted murder. The appetite for more of the same may be waning, but there may be a hyper-camp appeal in seeing the whole sordid business play out one more time – especially given the cast includes Kyle MacLachlan and William Fichtner, neither of them strangers to outrageous hamming.
