Council may tell schools to scrap skirts for girls

-

A council may become the first in the country to order schools to scrap skirts for girls and introduce gender-neutral uniforms and PE kits.

The move is aimed at reducing bullying and helping families save money by allowing sons and daughters to share each other’s hand-me-downs.

It follows a national survey showing 90 per cent of Brits experienced sexual violence or harassment at school.

Council bosses in the Borough of Halton, Cheshire, which also includes Runcorn and Widnes, will debate the idea by councillor Kath Loftus.

She is calling for school girls in the borough to have the choice of wearing trousers if it made them feel safer.
